On December 18th 2013, Highbush Public School in Pickering, Ontario, held an amazing Princess Party in honour of Olivia. Olivia was a Kindergarten student at Highbush, and spent many happy days with her classmates and teachers there, all of whom got together to organize this event to celebrate her life and raise money for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada. Ms. Cahill, Highbush’s school secretary took charge of organizing the event, and invited students, staff and parents to dress up and raise money through the sale of raffle tickets and baked goods.
Cinderella, Snow White, Belle and Tinkerbell were just some of the Disney characters in attendance to celebrate Olivia’s life. Even Pickering Trustee Chris Braney was dressed as Donkey from Shrek.
The idea for the event came to Highbush’s secretary Kim Cahill, who has fond memories of Olivia. She describes her as very generous and loving. Ms. Cahill worked as hard as she could — with the help of dedicated volunteers — to transform the Highbush gym into a magical world.
“She was just a ray of sunshine,” said Ms. Cahill, dressed as Cinderella. “She was really special.”
A wonderful time was had by everyone, and although the final few dollars are still being counted, Ms. Cahill estimates that over $1800 was raised.
Thank you to everyone at Highbush for this incredibly touching gesture.
